The WWE has clearly been keen to give the fans their money's worth in terms of Diva action recently as two nights on the trot we've been treated to two 12 Diva tag matches. On both occasions the teams were Beth Phoenix, Natalya Neidhart, Victoria, Melina, Layla and Jillian versus Mickie James, Michelle McCool, Maria, Kelly Kelly, Cherry and Ashley.
The Backlash match got underway with Beth hitting Michelle McCool with a kick to her mid-section before throwing her into the corner. Michelle was able to evade this attack and hit Beth with some moves of her own. Beth then took Michelle down with a slam, before tagging in Melina.
Melina hit Michelle with a bridged submission move and attempted a roll-up pin, but Michelle was able to roll out of it and hit her with a dropkick. Michelle then tagged in Mickie who after a bit of back and forth action, took Melina down with a headscissors out of the turnbuckle.
Melina then tagged in Natalya who got knocked down by a series of punches and a neckbreaker from Mickie. Natalya was able to regain control and then tagged in Victoria who took Mickie down with a bodyslam. Mickie countered with a kick to the head, whilst on the outside all hell broke lose as the other Divas attacked each other.
Back in the ring, tags were made to Ashley and Jillian. Ashley took Jillian down with a hurricanrana and attempted a pin. Jillian fought back with help from a cheap shot from Beth. She then made the tag to Beth who put Ashley into a submission hold. Beth then went for her double chickenwing finisher, but Ashley used the momentum from fending off an interference to break out of the hold.
Beth then decided to deliver a shot to Mickie on the apron, but taking umbrage to this, Mickie hit the ring and took Beth down with a tornado DDT. Victoria then took to the ring and hit Mickie with the Widow's Peak which was met with a big boot from Michelle. Melina then took Michelle down with her finisher only to be taken down by a dropkick from Kelly. She was in turn taken down by a face plant from Jillian who suffered a similar fate at the hands of Cherry. She was then taken down by a suplex from Natalya who was then hit with a bulldog from Maria. Finally Layla knocked Maria down only to be speared by Ashley.
Beth then crawled back into the ring and hit Ashley with the fisherman's suplex to pick up the win for her team.
On Raw, we were treated to a rematch from Backlash. This time things kicked off with a bit of a free for all that left Kelly Kelly and Beth together in the ring. Beth started by choking Kelly out and then slamming her into the turnbuckle.
Beth then tagged in Victoria who attempted to take Kelly down with a sidewalk slam but found this reversed into a headscissors takedown instead. Victoria then tagged in Melina who attacked Kelly at the turnbuckle. She then attempted a pin but this was broken up by Cherry. Melina then attempted to get some momentum off the ropes but following a cheap shot from McCool she crashed to the mat. Kelly attempted a pin but Beth dragged her off in the nick of time.
Melina then tagged in Jillian who attempted to hit Kelly with a handspring elbow, but Kelly kicked out and was able to make the tag to Mickie. The two Divas traded blows until Mickie was able to hit a move off the turnbuckle which she followed up with a Lou Thesz press. Mickie then hit Jillian with a spinning kick to the mid-section before scoring a roll-up pin for the win.
With both teams now with a win to their name it'll be interesting to see if this mass feuding continues or if it begins to break down into smaller skirmishes. We'll find out next week I'm sure!
